3 Screw Ruger help
« on: May 09, 2003, 02:15:46 PM »
I"ve got a 3  screw  Ruger in  41 Mag I  picked up last  year.. It  has a the  6 1/2  inch  barrel  and  shoots   real good   groups  wiht  one  expection..   I can't seem to get it on  a  center  hold. It shoots  high  with  factory or  hand loads..  (at least  ones  I'd hunt  with)..  Someone told me  that  teh  3  screws all need a taller   front sight on them.  Is this true  or  am  I just   doing something wrong.. I"ve  got  4 other  rugers   (NMB)  that   shoot  just  fine . This is my first   3  screw...Any  help or  advice  would  be  helppful

3 Screw Ruger help

Had an old 3 screw in .357 and an early 3 screw SBH in .44 mag.  Both shot great and to the sights.  Whoever said they all shot high, was full of it.  It wasn't the same person you bought it from was it?  Hope not.  At any rate, if you need a higher front sight, have it done and keep the gun.  (or sell it to me) You will never regret it.   44 Man

I have a 3 screw .41mag with the 6 1/2" barrel also. My sights can be adjusted to hit POA with loads ranging from 195gr bullets to 250gr bullets.

what kind of handloads are you using you may have to step them up a little. The harder you push em the lower theyll shoot.  Also a lighter bullet will usually print lower.

3-screw .41Magnum

It can be any number of things. If you reload, you can vary powder charge (bullet velocity) and bullet weight.  I've got a SA that I regulated in this way instead of filing the front sight. All my  OMBHs in .41Magnum hit where I aim at 25yards.  :? If Bowen still makes his rear sight for the OMBH, you might try that. Another remedy is having a 'smith put in an interchangable front sight and have a couple blades made for different loads. Good luck. RKBA!
