Another problem with .25 WSSM???
« on: February 23, 2007, 04:13:40 AM »
I was reloading some 75 gr. HP Sierra bullets for my .25 WSSM.  The problem I had was the COL.  The data says 2.350" and that would be impossible with these small bullets.  If I was to reload with this data, the bullet would hardly be seated in the case.  I mean the bullet would go only about an eigth of an inch into the case.  that doesn't seem right.

Anyone else having this problem.  I did find some data that put the COL at 2.300".  That is a little better, but not by much.

Any suggestions???      :-\

I called up the folks at Sierra and talked to a technician, Duane Siercks.  He is in the process of emailing me the data they have now on the super short magnums.  He told methe COL for the .25 WSM is 2.230".

Now I feel better now.  I love the Sierra bullets and now I am back in business.

Do a few without powder and see if they feed correctly. We noticed that with the 300 wsm you really had to bump the shoulder back. We called it camming the sizer so that it fully sized the case. Some of us had to remove a little from the shell holder so that the sizer would set the should back. Only need an extra 1000th.

Your proceedure has nothing to do with my orignial problem.  Though it is an improtant step in the reload processfor the short magnums.  I was talking about the Case Overall Length (COL).

What you are taking about is a standard proceedure for all WSSM & WSM shells.  I still don't understand this, but it must always be done.

Nothing like being in the woods and finding out the hard way that your cartridge doesn't fit.    ;)
