I planted grain sorghum
http://zipcodezoo.com/Plants/S/Sorghum_bicolor.asp for the first time last year. My deer hunting partners from South Carolina use it to attract deer and turkey. So I gave it a try. The deer didn't eat it at all.
The bag said it would attain 48 inches in height. It quit growing at 9.5 feet in height (photos posted on other links this site). Next time, if there is one, I will try a variety that does not grow that tall.
The hogs enjoyed sleeping in it one night (thank you). I was about to drive the truck through it to knock down some shooting lanes. My tree stands are only 12 feet tall.
I broadcast spread it around the edges and through the middle. Made the mistake of overseeding. It choked the clover and iron clay peas out of existence.
Don't overseed. In fact, underseed a little bit, particularly when broadcasting by hand. Lesson Learned.
I don't own a grain drill, but I am thinking hard about getting one.
