p1917 gunsmithing question
« on: February 24, 2007, 10:21:31 AM »
Does anybody know if these can be modified to take a detachable box magazine such as the enfield smle type?
I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on; I don't do these things to other people and I require the same from them.

I have not seen it done but it doesn't mean it can't be done.  You would have to find a detachable magazine that would hold the 06  and somehow get it to fit the action.  Mikey.

Why ruin a perfectly good Model 1917? Stripper clip as designed are much cooler than any magazine modification that can done. These guns get more rare as each year goes by. Each one that gets messed with makes the original ones that much more valuable. MHO-Buy a beater Remington 700 adl or early 70's M70 and chop it up. Mo's up in Conn or Mass will modify your new bolt gun and floor plate to a magazine fed rifle. There are many of those around for $250 and that's all they;ll ever be worth. I hate seeing all these old US Military rifles getting sporterized. They have history and nostalgia, not to mention warmth from teh walnut- No cold plastic stocks for me.
The first shot is the best shot, it may be your only shot!  Do it with a single-shot.

You have to remember, British military rifles(Enfields) are made to be recharged from the top(stripper clips), not the magazine replaced?
