Anyone have any dealings with NC Star scopes? At the gun show today fella was pushing them pretty hard. Pretty clear and Lifetime warranty. I was looking at a 4-16X50 mil dot to put on my 204

I've tried two of their scopes, a 4x and a 4x12(?) and the helo sight. Just my opinion, don't waste your money. As many have stated, you get what you pay for. But in these cases, I paid little but got nothing in use because they did not last. Doesn't matter how good they look, if they go tits up in short order.
Now we can wait for the wailing from those who have different experiences with them.

I had excellent results with their 2.5 to 7 pistol scope and their fixed power 4X pistol scope, had the 2-7 on a Russian Nagant and the 4X as a scout rifle on a 22 Mag. The are the best cheap scope on the market. I would buy one again, I think you may want to stay away from the high powered ones as cheap glass in high powers tend to be not so sharp. I would buy one again. For a really under rated scope try a Swift. Larry

I remember reading a magazine article tilted 'A Good Cheap Scope' They made the Bushnell Sportview sound like a Leupold. I bought one for $90.00 CDN and bore sighted it. It shot 8 feet low at 25 yards after a few shots. Imagine how a scope could possibly do that. There is no such thing as a good cheap scope. Get something half way, like the Bushy Elite 3200's. They have B&L glass and will give years of reliable service and are garanteed(SP) for life.

I have bought a NC Star spotting scope and I think it is fine for that. I bought some Magnacraft scopes for the same reason you are considering the NC Star. My experience has been just what I was trying to avoid. I have had one completely lose zero and the other one had to be cranked 24inches to the left just to hit paper at 100yds. It did zero but recently I have been doing some real detailed shooting and found the zero changes when I go from 3 to 9 power! I have friends that gave me the same advise you are getting her. DO NOT BUY CHEAP SCOPES! but I did and I am a bit more than 100dollars behind now. Not to mention the frustration of some shots I should have made on game. You will doubt the scope and ruin your confidence with every shot.

Having said that........

I have heard good things about the BARSKA sniper scopes. they run around $200 range come with rings mounts flip up covers. I debated between that or the Cabelas multi turret scope for my 222. Decided to go with the Cabelas multi turret with the side focus. But who makes the scope for Cbelas?

? Time will tell. I have had bushnell go to pieces also and won't buy them. I hope they are not making the Cabelas scopes......... Good luck in your choice

Get what you pay for has been my lessons on scopes. I have leupolds and burris scopes now. I have a nikon on a rem .270 but I have never really shot it much. It belonged to my brother and just don't like to take it out very often. I got it out a few months ago for a rabid racoon in the yard just for giggles. He was a little over a hundred yards out and it made the shot right where I wanted. The rifle hadn't been shot in over 5 years since he passed and the scope is still dead on, not sure of the model on the scope but I would buy another one after that instance.

Bushnell website lists a "one year free replacement no questions asked warranty" on the Elite 3200 and 4200.

I was wrong on the Barska scopes. I said they were sniper class and they are in fact swat tactical if you want to look them up. Sorry about that

One of the old-timers at my club has an NC Star 2.5X on his .357 Contender, and swears by it. He told me about a place in Montana that beats gun show prices on these -- the Cranky Farmer, aka Wick's Trading Post. Try www.crankyfarmer.com I decided to try the 2.5X pistol scope on my Ruger MkII, but weather has prevented me from getting to the range for more than a month. Cost with shipping was $10 under the local gun show vendor's price, and than included Weaver-style rings. When the snow melts down some, I'll see if the thing can stand up to .22LR recoil. It looks and feels at least as solid as the Bushnells I have, which are not top-of-the-line Bushnells.

I'd love a Leupold, but the prices are way out of line for me. Others have recommended Bushnell Banner scopes as good values for less than a hundred bucks. It does seem weird to use a scope that costs almost twice as much as the gun . . .

I've gotten all mine from the crankyfarmer.com they are very reasonable. Only scope I have had shoot apart was a Leapers on a .243 and I replaced it with a NCStar which held up. Leapers is supposed to a step up but it didn't work out that way. I have a real hard time putting a scope on a rifle that costs more than the rifle does, guess if I had expensive rifles I would go with the expensive scopes. Larry

I have two NC Star scopes, one on my Ruger 11/45 target pistol and the other on a 14" .223 contender. Both are 2.5x7 and I shoot quite a bit and have never had a problem with them. Both are very clear at any range I shoot at.

If you buy NC star scopes from sporsmans guide keep your invoice as long as you have that they will repair or replace a defective scope
Get your self a file folder and you will always have a replacement

SFR3940R 3-9X40 on my .300 Weatherby...............3 shots, scope innards were trashed. I put the Leupold back on Forever.

Smokinjoe: If I had a .300 Wby, I'd use a Leupold, too. I never shot one, but I have shot a.338 Win off the bags, and I've heard the .300 Wby kicks even harder than that.

Got to the range last weekend. The NC Star 2X pistol scope held its' zero just fine. Adjustments were smooth and predictable. This on a Ruger MK II .22LR, though. I don't have any harder-kicking handguns that will take a scope, but I have high hopes that the NC Star will hold up on the pipsqueak so I can get my $40 worth of use from it. The eye relief seems a bit short -- it's perfect for two-handed shooting, but if you try a recumbent position that allows you to stretch out your arm, you lose some field of view. Still, the little thing allowed me to shoot some mighty small groups with the old Ruger, when rested on the bench.
