The new "Gamepoint" .22 mags by CCI...
« on: February 25, 2007, 01:48:31 AM »

   Has anyone here used them on any varmints/predators from groundhog size up ?

  If so, what are your observations..entrance, exit, wound channel..etc..

                                                                                             thanks...Ironglow

I have used them. They get the job done. They don't expand very good past 50 yards and arnt as good as the hollow points in my opinion.

  Thanks Gould;

    I bought them on a whim at a gun show..and then wondered..Duh !

  Thanks for the info, just what I needed. Since I had coyotes in mind, perhaps i had best stay with HPs for dogs...

Just an update;

     Having tried the CCI "Gamepoints" this summer on woodchucks, I am disappointed in their performance. In my experience, they simply are not "stoppers"..since the chucks I did kill (usually with a second shot)..had small entrance AND exit holes.
  The Gamepoint must have coasted right on through with little disruption..

FWIW...The game point is supposed to NOT expand like a hollowpoint. It is designed to save meat on small game that you plan to eat. It is supposed to give a better thump than solids without the explosion of the hollowpoint.

THAT SAID... They shoot like crap out of my Savage 93GL. I wanted to use them for squirrels this year, but I guess I am back to hollowpoints and head shots.

   I can't see where they have any "thump value" above the solids..

I guess we need to see what one looks like after being shot into an animal. I think they will expand a little. They are a soft point. I may never know first hand because my gun won't group them.
