New Lapua Brass
« on: February 25, 2007, 03:45:49 AM »
I bought some new Lapua brass about a month ago. Have any of you noticed and inconsistency's in the new run? Out of my first 100 I had 21 that won't chamber for their second loading. It's like the case heads are warped. I had noticed that lengths of the new brass varied from .001-.004. I also weighed the whole batch and of the 100 it seemed that about 75 were within about a .1-.2 of a grain but the rest were like 2-3 grains different (Lighter). I also noticed when priming that some of the primers slipped in easy while a few were hard to get in. These are 6.5 x .284 and the fire forming loads were stiff but not out of line. I also noticed that when shooting I could fire 1-8 shots with everything being fine and then the next couple would have ejector marks on the case head. Everything was exactly the same as far as powder weight ect. I was just curious if you think I have a bad batch. Worse part is I have 200 of them. These are shot in a custom XP 100. So out of the first 100 I have 50 that would be considered benchrest quality. Sure would appreciate your thoughts!

I bought 200 from Kaltron took forever to arrive. one box had 101 cases the other 99. Kaltron now refers you to Sinclair. I order 300 at a cost of +$20/ 100 more than I had previously paid. I just received them, and there were 99 cases per box. I have always had good luck with Sinclair, but they claim its out of there hands. BS open up a box and start mailing cases, I can tell you I am not the only one. Yes they are 6.5x284 cases, and I hope it doesn't get any worse.

I am glad I read this, I was about to order some 6.5-284 cases to neck down to 6-284... I think I will stick to necking down the 284 winchester brass for right now. Isn't there another place to get the brass or maybe another kind of 6.5-284 brass?

Greg,

If you think that you're going to get ANY kind of quality from the Winchester product...

I'd buy the Lapua and take my chances.

You think it is that bad? I have some right now that I got a hold of, and it is all with in .5gr of each other. I might not be used to real good brass though as I am a cheap you know what ;D 90% of the time I will use starline if they make what I am wanting, if not I will try anything once.

Hornady 6.5-284 does not get good reviews, I like there bullets but that's it. Norma makes good brass for the 6.5-284, normally costs more than Lapua, but you order 100 you get 100.

I just received a e-mail from Sinclair, and a box of Lapua brass is on the way to cover my missing cases. Sinclair is back in good graces with me.

I should check my brass, just received 200 cases of Lapua in 6.5/284
I got mine from Russ Haydon's Shooter Supply    www.shooters-supply.com
$77.00 for 100. Does anyone have good reload data for the 6mm-284 , I am waiting for my custom barrel for my Encore

No good data, I am just starting to load for this round too. I am using what I found from Hornady and what I got from Load From A Disk program. I think it is just dig for data, then be careful.

Sinclair got the distributer to send me a box of 6.5-284 lapua brass at no charge to compensate for my short count. The sealed box arrived and to no ones surprise it contained 99 cases. I now have enough 6.5-284 brass to go thru the first barrel. i may have to look at a 6-284.
