It could very well just be a primer issue... However, I have measured some Factory ammunition and they were all over the board for length. This is measuring them to a datum point on the shoulder, not OAL using a Stoney Point gauge.
If the chamber is cut to max spec's, and the cases are sized to minimum specs, adding in any gap between the barrel and frame, you can get the situation that Neuton has come upon. Remember we are talking measurments in .001. Not very big
I have seen it happen two different times. One brand of factory would shoot like a champ with no FTF's and the other would be a hit or miss situation.
