Congrats onesonek. That should be a great rig. Is it blue or stainless, standard or varmint? I suffered the same weakness at a gun show in February and came home with a No. 1V stainless in .22/250. I'm a No. 1 lover and wish I could afford more! Enjoy ...

It's a V blued. I wish one could buy just the #1 actions. I would like to do a stainless custom job in a 338-06. I most likely will get a barreled action and scrap the factory barrel, but like you ReedG, affording wishes takes time to hoard the extra $$$. I have more rifles than I really "need", but would really like a #1 in an "all-around" chambering. For my hunting style, the #1 338-06, fits the bill quite well.

I did things a little different from your plan for a .338-06. I had a No. 1A in .270 that I had rebored by Dick Nichol (now deceased) to .338-06. The rifle weighs right at 8 lbs with a 3X Weaver in the Ruger rings. The 22 inch bbl is plenty long for the round. With decent loads it will shoot aroung 1" 3-shot groups. It seems to like 4320 and RX-15 with 200 and 225 bullets. The 250's I have tried don't group as well. Fine rifle; fine cartridge, as one 6-point bull would attest.

I've thought about the reboreing scenario, and won't rule that out. 1" groups is good enough for big game in my book. And at the ranges I would expect to use this round. It was good to hear from someone, with the rebore experience. Thanks for the input dc!
