22.250 not firing all brands of shells
« on: February 25, 2007, 04:31:16 PM »
Sighted in a buddies nef 22.250 today. It shot the federal and UMC shells fine but would not shoot the Remington green box or the winchester's at all. There would be a firing pin mark in the primer but the shell would not fire. I put the same rounds it wouldn't fire into my Ruger and it shot them fine. Again, lots of the other two brands with no probs. Is this common with the 22.250? Have shot a ton of ammo of all brands through my Ultra's in 308 and 223 with no problems. Thanks

Sounds like head-space problem. Recommend you get it checked by a gunsmith.

Who made the .22-250?  The reason tha ti ask is that TC Encores are notorious for light hammer strikes:  Especially so if there is a hammer extension on the gun.

He said it's an NEF,  since this is an NEF forum!! There's a post right now in the TC forum about Remington ammo, good primer impacts, but no fire. I'd blame the ammo in this case.

Had it only been the Remington rounds , then i would say bad ammo , but with it being Win. also , that leads me to think it may be a light hammer strike or even a mis-aligned transfer bar problen , not allowing the hammer to make full contact with the firing pin .

just an idea .

It may be a weak hammer spring also, there's been a few case's of that happening .    Digger
