Probably not the 45g.
I don't think our troops are alowed to use hollow points.

I don't think your dealer has a clue.  Most likely THE BRASS is being used in IRAQ but HP's are not allowed by the Geoneva Convention, of which we seem to be one of the FEW countries that abide.

Not too much reloading going on over there.

I wonder if and when this war is over, the prices will come back down?  Kinda like temporary taxes????

now that u say that, i think you may be right because i cannot find the white box ammo anywhere, they used to sell 50 rd boxes of .223 55gr soft points that shot excellent out of my handi, as well as the 45 gr jhp but i havent been able to find them, so i bought a box of the 55 gr winchester ballistic silvertips, i hope i can make them shoot well i have never tried them, if anybody knows what this ammo shoots like out of .223 handis please let me know.  they had the umc ammo at gander, but i didnt like the looks of it, the brass looked chincy but maybe thats just me, if the umc ammo is good out of a .223 please let me know also. thanks

Other cheaper ammo that shoots good is the Black Hills 52gr Match HP and Ultramax reman 40gr Nosler BT, both are less than $20 a box of 50 and shoot almost or as good as the WWB JHP. Sportsmans Warehouse carries both.

The white box 223 that I have is 55gr fmj and all it ever was was Winchester military contract ammo call it over runs or what ever. But with the ongoing war I suspect that all of Winchesters 223, 9mm 38spl and 45acp production is going to the DOD. Mine is all head stamped WCC xx(date) with the Nato sysmbol.

All the Walmarts around me (NH) have plenty of .45acp Value packs. Still have a bunch of 9mm value packs as well, allthough the 9mm value pack has jumped from$12.84 to $14.64 since November.

I bought my first 223 (Handi heavy barrel) a few months ago.  Since then, I have not found any WWB locally.  It also appears that ALL of the 223 ammo at Walmart as well as Sportsman's WH  is getting thinner and thinner.   :'(

I really wonder what happened to the Winchester white box ammo. I use to be able to buy a box of 40 for my 223 for $16.00 and and they allways shot sub moa. Gander Mt. dosn't have them anymore and I do not even see them in the 22-250 or the 204. If they moved their plant to Mexico I wonder if we will soon see the white box again. :'(

Word came to us at Wal-Mart (for what it is worth) that Winchester picked up secondary contract to US Gov.  No civilian production for the year so Wal-Mart dropped Winchester White Box 223 for the time being.  You might be able to find the Q3131A 5.56mm load someplace soon, but I wouldn't look for 223 White Box 45gr.

The UMC 55 FMJ didn't shoot very well out of my 1:12 223.  Black Hills 55 SP was the best.

"non-expanding" ammo is required by the Hague Convention not the Geneva Convention, by the way.

SECTION II
HOSTILITIES
CHAPTER I
Means of Injuring the Enemy,
Sieges, and bombardments
Art. 22.
The right of belligerents to adopt means of injuring the enemy is not unlimited.

Art. 23.
In addition to the prohibitions provided by special Conventions, it is especially forbidden -

To employ poison or poisoned weapons;

To kill or wound treacherously individuals belonging to the hostile nation or army;

To kill or wound an enemy who, having laid down his arms, or having no longer means of defence, has surrendered at discretion;

To declare that no quarter will be given;

To employ arms, projectiles, or material calculated to cause unnecessary suffering;

I was told by my local guy that the wwb was out for the year because of that military contract.  I have not seen it anywhere around me and can't even find it online.  I have been using the ultramax in the 50 gr. nosler bt.  I bought 250 rounds for about 100 bucks online at sportsmans guide.  I haven't seen it cheaper than that.  If you have a membership or join that site the coupon code "spgk380" will get you free shipping up until april from what I was told.  I buy my plinking ammo for my AR from this site and have never had a problem with anything I have purchased.  Usually get my stuff in 2-3 days.  If you join when you order the free shipping on enough rounds will pay for the membership.  I do apoligize for soliciting a non - sponsor, but with the prices going the way they are I am stocking up while it doesn't break me.  I am about to order at least 500 more rounds of the 50gr.  Ultramax is all once fired reamanufactured ammo, most of my current 500 rounds is about 80 percent winchester brass, some rem and the rest is lake city.  I have not had one problem with them yet and it is giving great results in my .223 and have not had to re zero my scope between lot #s.  It is loaded to pretty high standards from what I can tell by shooting it.
