Predator Scent Bombs ...
« on: March 01, 2007, 02:36:50 AM »
I saw these scent bombs in two stores in the past two weeks. I saw the coyote urine and fox urine but apparently they also offer the fawn urine. Just curious if anyone here has used them and what their experience was. I am not even sure how they work ...

The scent bomb is like a bug bomb, It's not what's needed when making a stand. It goes off making noises tell it runs out of juice. On the other hand, being able to mist coyote and rabbit urine in the air is what's needed when the coyote heads downwind.
If you recall they had some anti gun oil stuff on the market to cover the smell of your gun duh lol, these people well try to sell you anything.

When I first saw this product, I started laughing because I thought about a "bug" bomb. I helped a friend one time set off a few of those in his unfinished basement. We set them off and ran like h___ . I was imagining setting one of these off in the field and seeing mist, hearing a hissing sound, and everything running for cover. I was in a Gander Mountain yesterday and faintly remember them being about $12.00 or so ... don't remember for sure. Who knows  ... they might work for somebody.

Mr onecoyote hit the nail on the head on both accounts. All you need is a perfume atomizer minus the perfume which can be purchased at many places, Step two shoot a coyote and take its bladder and place contents of the bladder into the atomizer and you will be in good shape after a couple good squirts on your pants and boots. Onecoyote made another great point about the oil you use on your rifle. I can smell some of the oils and cleaning solvents down wind a good distance, So you know a coyote can smell them from a very long distance. I have seen coyotes at a great distance coming to me and suddenly they start a long turn and come around from down wind and i could tell the minute they got wind of me. Put yourself in their place and see if you don't have better luck. Thank you guys for the posts........Joe.......

Actually, I am happy just using my scent-free sprays like Scent Shield Fall Blend with Earth Scent and H.S. Scent's cover scent wafers. I keep one of the wafers in my clothing scent-free bag and always carry them into the woods with me. It is incredible at times how the coyotes will move in an arc to get downwind. I just saw these bombs and was curious whether anyone had tried them.

Thanks ...

You can buy coyote and rabbit urine, look in Trapper Predator caller magazine. I mix the coyote/rabbit urine 50/50 with water and strain it good, if you don't strain it good it could plug up the atomizer.
A good plastic spray bottle like what window cleaner comes in works fine. When you see a coyote heading downwind you spray it high in the air in a mist form, the mist well carry a long way right to the coyotes nose.
NO it won't hide the human smell but it well confuse the coyote long enough to take a shot.  I've also seen the coyotes come in because they smell another coyote beating it to the rabbit.
I've been doing this for years as have a few others, so I know it works. In the last couple years more and more people are finding out about it.

Trust me, You'll never fool a coyotes nose with scent free anything, It simply don't work on a coyote. The best you can do is try to fool or trick the coyote at best, I like to use the word confuse.

I have some some old skunk scent laying around. (commercial man made stuff,a 2 part mix.) It's really strong. Do you think putting a little of this out to cover your scent would be a help or a hinderence??

THEPLUMBER,

It wont help. If they get down wind of you, they'll still know you're there. Best thing you can do is use the wind to your advantage and shoot them before they get to that point.

THANKS, I guess I'll just leave it at home, as it is dangerously smelly!
