Now that the 41 magnum craze of a few years ago has settled down, I am seeing a lot of used 41's on the market. If you want one, this is probably a good time.

The 41 seems to go in spirts of 10 to 15 years and then it dies down for 10 about years or till some Mag writer rev's it back up again . I myself happen to like the Mid Mag .

I love my 657 with the 7.5 barrel

shot it yesterday, getting around a 3" group at 50 yards standing with no rest

Picked up my first .41 mag about 10 years ago and will be bringing home the latest in a few weeks. Of course this next one is a rifle.

neat gun, but i bet a dollar to a donut that a person could pick up an older 657 or 57 and it would be a nicer, more accurate gun. i owned a python and a 586 and shot them side by side. without thinking value, just comparing the two guns, the smith was heads and shoulders above the colt. although it is a interesting gun, that dude can keep it for that price.

That Colt sure looks nice, but I think I'll save $18000 and buy a FA83. If I spent 20K on a gun I'd be afraid to shoot it. Just one scratch and . . . . I don't even want to think about it.

It was similar this time last year, Last year I dallied and missed an opportunity to get a 657 MG.

Not today! I found one NIB!!! and grabbed it as soon as I verified my FFL connection was still in town.
Man I'm looking forward to this. Been looking for a year. Almost bought the 357PD but it seemed too light with mixed reviews on durability.

I wonder why that is with the 41 mag. It's one of my all time favorites - I have a 657-3, and with all the talk on the various forums I thought it was really coming on strong. Maybe it's just the same twenty people on the forums talking back and forth about it that makes it seem like everyone is on the 41 bandwagon. I know I'm one who likes it alot. I also have a 44 and 357, but there's just something about the 41 mag. I shot some of the Speer Gold Dot 210 grain factory loads, and they were extremely accurate and very nice to shoot. wyatte

for you 41 guys who also have SW 44's I have a question: Does a 6 inch SW 57 balance as nicely as a 6 inch 29? I just handled a friend's SW 29 with 6 inch barrel. The thing almost seems to float in my hand. If the 6 inch 57 or 657 handles as nice, I might have to pick one up.

According to some on another forum this is not a factory gun. It is a conversion and colt will not issue a letter of authenticity.

I have the 6" 657-3 41 mag, and yes it balances the same (even though I don't have a 629). They are both built on the same N frame, and the dimensions are the same, even though there is slightly more metal in the 41 because the bore and cylinder holes are a little smaller in diameter than the 44 mag. You would really enjoy a model 57 or 657 - I know that I do. wyatte

My guess is when you load them up, the tad lighter 44, might have a tad heavier cylinder loaded (if loaded with heavier slugs, likely) and the difference between both diminishes even more.

My latest purchase was a Saf-T-Hammer & Wesson 357PD very lightly used. It will most likely be my last until they loose the lock. Just too many good used Smith & Wessons on the market to settle for the lock.

The .41 Magnum is my all time favorite revolver cartridge just like the oddball .38 Super is my favorite semi-auto pistol cartridge.

While the 6" guns do balance nicely the 4" guns are what really balance for me. While I only like shooting full load .44s in a 6+" gun I can shoot the 4" .41s all day long...

But whatever length you like, get a .41...you'll sell off most everything else...

29 S&W will be lighter than a 57 just because of the bigger holes in the chambers. I think balance with a Smith takes the right grips and caliber? Hard to beat a 4" N frame for balance. My $.02.
