encore range report
« on: March 01, 2007, 12:40:50 PM »
I finally got to shot my new encore 209-50 today. I only had one kind of bullet to try. The bullets were 240gr xtp's they shot pretty good with 100gr of t7 powder.

I'll get some different bullets and try to tighten  the group up a little more.

this target was at 100yards

Looking good!! 8)
My encore load is the .452 300 XTP/Harvester crushrib sabots, will put them in the bull at 100 yds touching with 2 pyro pellets.  I am getting away from pyrodex and will work up a load with loose T7FFg.

Nice shooten... as you shoot your gun more it will tighten up - you break the barrel in a bit and you get a lot more confidence.

When you get a chance get a box of Hornady 200 grain 10MM XTP's and some MMP 40/50 Blue sabots... load up 100 grains of pellets (I use 110 grains of T7-2f) and shoot that little hummer, what great shooting bullet... I shoot ground squirrels and deer with that bullet... it really is a fun...

I had my Remington out yesterday shooting that bullet.  We set up clay pigeons from 75 yards to 150 yards and start picking them off.... do not need to compensate for distance - just hold in the disk and pull the trigger.  I hold on the bottom of the disk at 75 to 100 and then the center from 125 to 150 - it turns those clay birds to dust....

Have fun...
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

Not bad for your first try. With 100 grains of 777 and the 240 XTP, you are ready to go deer hunting!
Aim small don't miss.

Good Luck with your Encore.

I have an Omgega, but my 2 buddies have the Encore.   Try their favorite load: 300 gr Hornady XTP (.452), Harvestor black sabot and 85 - 100 grs of T7.  Also try the Harvestor Crush rib sabot... they load much easier in T/C barrels. ;)

WOW!!

Not hard to believe - coming from this brand of ML - with only powder choice  - one powder volume - plus only one bullet - plus only one bullet grain size.

How many CVAs, Winchesters, Traditions, Rugers... etc... can do that????
Keep that ML smokin'

It's more gun than brand....I've seen Traditions and CVAs do just as well, and Encores that wouldn't shoot much of anything well.  Be happy you found a sweet spot so easily, and enjoy shooting!!

Biff, You threw out the bait and heres your catch.... How many TC inlines come out of the factory that will actually shoot one conical right off the bat?

If the XTP bullet wasnt any good, TC wouldnt have gone to them. The XTP is also a known bullet that performs in tradtions, bpi, knight exe. I bet you take anus shots on animals and think its humane, You just seem like that kinda guy.

1 1/4 @ 100  with 250 grain SST - 90 RS. Seems to be a great bullet so far but i would like to try the XTP out in my rifle.
