holster for j frame??
« on: March 02, 2007, 07:08:30 AM »
Have a J-frame 2" barrel snubnose and am in the market for a reasonbly priced holster. Does anybody make one of the wallet type holsters for the j-frame. I really like to carry it in my hip pocket as it just fits great. But drawing it fast without hanging the hammer isn't easy.
What about the Thunderwear holster? Anybody use one of these? Likes or dislikes?  Thanks

Andrew

Don't have a "wallet" type holster, but I have used the Thunderware.  Works quite well.  Guess it all depends on what works for you.  Don't pass up the front pocket possibilities.  Uncle Mike's makes a very effect (cheap too!) pocket holster for J-frames.

You got a hammer on your wheelie? Good for you! I've got a hammer on my J too, and people look at it and wonder why I didn't get a simple DAO. You must have bigger back pockets than I do, cause my J peeks out the top of most of my pants. I have a Mika pocket holster that works very well in my front pocket, and I've heard lots of good things about the DeSantis Nemises, and it's supposed to be a little thinner than the Mika. You can pick one up on Ebay for about $19 including shipping. Good luck!

With the way pants are made now days the back pocket is better for me. I'm tall & skinny & according to others no much butt to speak of!! :o

Anyhow, the back pocket is best for me and I've seen those holsters for the smaller autos that look like a wallet and that would be pefect for me. Wouldn't have a revolver that didn't have a hammer. Just wouldn't seem right. ;D

Uncle Mikes of Oregon sells a great pocket holster for the j-frames.  Got two in case I ever wear one out.  Ten bucks or something like that.  Soft ballistic nylon with thin strips of suede to keep the holster in the pocket when you draw.  Good fer hammers, hammerlesses, and Bodyguards.

Kramers also sells a pocket holster for the j-frames.  Theirs are hard leather and not too pliable or soft.  I have found they pull out of the pocket fairly easily.  Maybe they were meant for tight fitting jeans pockets or something but they don't work for squat with trenchcoat pockets.  Uncle Mike's are better in my opinion and about 1/3rd the cost, as I recall.

If the hammer is still a problem you can always have it bobbed or shortened, or you can trade for a Bodyguard - still got the hammer but it is shrouded and doesn't catch.  HTH.  Mikey.

This may be TOTALLY incorrect, but I thought the wallet holsters with the hole for the trigger were deemed illegal for some reason.

I like a GAlco deep cover.  It's not a wallet style, but it's an IWB that you can tuck your shirt over.  It's nice.
