  The same way my brother gets 18 to 20 mpg on his pickups, no matter the brand, engine or if it's 4wd, 1/2 or 3/4 ton or whatever!!  Everyone he's ever had would do it!!

I have no problem getting over 3000 fps with a 150 grain bullet out of my 1938 turk with a 29 inch barrel....... That is tested over a chronograph.... that is max loading with sierra 150 grain.

i think any 8x57 load would be up to the job.i have used  243,308,shotgun,bow &muzzleloader
on bear here in michigan.our state record for bow is over around 600lbs

Not a handload, but Hornady 195 gr SP 8x57 commercial loading anchored a 226 lb hog right smartly a month ago for me! 2500 fps.  Not the best bullet for the job (interlocks aren't known for holding together real well), but this one penetrated through the base of the neck just fine.

a  53 grain charge of IMR 4064 (if they even still make it)  will send a 150 grain Speer #2277 to a velocity of 2,910 FPS... That is as close as I can get to the 3000 fps mark
with a 150 grain bullet. It is a stout load !

My two favorite loads are:
170 Grain SP - 47 grains of IMR 3031 - 2680 FPS
and
200 Grain SP - 54 grains of IMR 4831 - 2400 FPS

I know of nothing I will ever hunt that will require more power than these.

To answer the Initial question, A properly constructed 150 grain bullet should do what you want if you can get it moving that fast.. A Duplex load or Triplex load may get there
But such loads are scary to me and I avoid them.
