Too much ammo?

I can’t believe that this is making such a big national news story.  Ok, I can believe it just because of the general media bias against guns. 

Maybe this guy was a little excessive, but is there some law against how much ammo you can own?

It makes for a sensational story.  I have no idea if there are any local laws about that much ammo, but I bet he has trouble with his insurance company. 

I get a kick out of the reporting, like cooked off ammo posts any real danger.  I bet they found most of the bullets about a foot from the shells...

There is a limit to the amount of smokeless powder you can keep without buidling a wooden storage cabinet.  Cant remember the amount but I think is in the 10 to 20 lb range.  I reload and dont really worry about it.  Guess I should check.

It would be dull TV.  Fizz, pop, bullet six inches in front of shell.  Not the Bang, zing that normally is seen on TV when this issue is raised.  Loose powder is more dangerous in that it can burn like the dickens.

That was my thought also.  I know a guy that has one in his basement.  It’s a “tunnel” right in the wall consisting of large diameter culvert complete with lights and cable system for running targets down range.

He can shoot all he wants in a residential area without anyone being "disturbed".

Wish I had one.  I feel lucky that we have a pistol range ten miles away that I use weekly in the winter.  My BIL built an improved outdoor 100 yard range we use in good weather and it is only a couple miles away.  But still if I had one at home...

As an Explosive  Ordnance Disposal guy since 1959, i have burned about two billion rounds of small arms ammo.  Most of it was burned in huge pits.  Very seldom does a bullet travel more than 10 feet from the edge of the pit.  Steel cased ammunition is an exception.  It makes a bigger noise when burned.  The steel case sometimes fragments slightly and the bullet does travel a little further:  It is still not any danger to a person 10 yards away.

   As I recall, old " Slick Willie" tried to put through a law during his administration that prohibited more than a total of 1,000 rounds to be held by any civilian.
   It didn't go anywhere though ..thank you Lord !

I thought that there was a regulation about the number of primers that you could have.  I'm thinking 10,000.  I always assumed that that would include loaded ammo, but I may well be mistaken.

Years ago when I was heavily into black powder I would have a couple hundred pounds of the stuff around at times.  The local fire department found out about it and told me they wouldn't be able to enter my house if I had a fire, so I cut way back.  Black powder could be a problem in that quantity I suppose, but smokeless wouldn't present much danger, especially in loaded rounds.

NFPA regulations limits what can be had in a residence as I recall.  I don't recall the limits as I DON"T CARE.

Federal Regulations for private car/house is 25,000 primers, 20lbs powder no regulation/50lbs maximum, 5lbs blackpowder.

To think that one can possess too much ammo is pure, unadulterated poopycocka. But then, this is exactly what the gun grabbers are full of.
