Spring Bear Hunts in the lower 48?
« on: March 02, 2007, 11:23:36 AM »
Always wanted to go after bear, but the fall is soo busy.  So are there any spring bear seasons in the lower 48 states?  Fill me in.

Check out the western states, especially Idaho, New Mexico, Montana; also look at Maine.  I'm not sure if North Carolina has a spring season or not.  For a variety of color-phase black bears, take a long, hard look at Idaho and New Mexico.

Best of luck, Arch

Maine lost their spring hunt about 25 years ago.  As far as I know North Carolina doesn't have one either.  These western states -- Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming -- are about your only choices for a spring bear hunt in the lower 48.  Good luck and let us know how you come out  ;D  Rev

First state I would look at is Idaho.  Good chance at color phase bears.  My son and I each took a cinnamon colored black bear, in Idaho, last fall.  Just research your outfitters carefully.  You can check out outfitter reviews at www.huntinfo.com/
