new uberti were should i start??
« on: March 02, 2007, 03:08:04 PM »
ok i have my new uberti so now were should i start. my guess would be that it is not going to be very smooth bore in the pistol. so should i go ahead and run jacketed bullets though it first then start with cast. should i go ahead and shoot some hard castin it from the start. or should i go ahead and run some patches with jb bore shine and try smoothing it out for using cast.

I have found that polishing an Uberti bore is only necessary on the cap & ball guns.  My Uberti/Navy Arms Schofields have the smoothest bores of any guns I own.

shoot cast through it first and see if it even needs lapping. Id about bet its fine like it is. It doesnt hurt to shoot a box of jacketed through a new gun and i used to do it all the time. But i just hate to waste money on a box of ammo im not going to use in the future anyway. If it truely does have a rough bore the best way to take care of it is to buy one of verals bore lapping kits.

My Cattleman has a nice smooth bore. Shoots cast just fine. A very well built and constructed gun.

I've now got my fourth Uberti, I've never polluted the barrel of one with jacketed bullets yet.
