Need advice on Buffalo Classic
« on: March 03, 2007, 11:54:16 AM »
Which factory loads can I use with the best results? I am in a wheelchair so the recoil is a concern. This thing is a blast but I can't see useing the Rem. 405's on Whitetails. Anybody know a good cheap practice roung? I dont reload, so I joined here in hopes that someone might be of help.  Any help will be appreciated.

Welcome to GBO's forums ... you should get plenty of help on this one. I cannot help you but I am betting you will really enjoy that BC ...

The Rem 300gr Core-lokt and Win 300gr PP are as good as any to start for factory ammo, but the 405gr is an easy load to shoot, all of these mentioned are trapdoor loads. If you decided you need a little protection from the steel butt plate, consider either a recoil shield to wear, or a nice slip-on leather pad, either can be had for $30 or less. I have a Galco on my 45-120 BC, but the Kick Killer should work fine too, get the small size. ;)

The least expensive way to shoot a lot is to start reloading, I cut my teeth reloading for the .45-70 not all that long ago, the Lee Loader is inexpensive and a great way to start reloading on a budget, they also make a hand press($21) that uses regular dies. You can get the Lee Loader for less than $20, a pound of powder for $18-$20, a box of cheap bullets for about the same, primers are $3 or less per hundred, brass is $20-$25 for 50, and you'd be set for a lot of shooting for a minimum investment and have a lot of fun. ;) You can also reload the brass from the factory ammo you shoot, so save it!

The BC has the same SB2 frame as the NEF which is listed on Garrett's site, it will also shoot the loads that they don't list it for, but the throats are usually too short to load the bigger bullets, that's why they don't list it. Please see my 45-70 throating link in the FAQs,  you should read thru the FAQs, lots of your questions will be answered in there. ;)
