just noticed this new forum! here is my fav cheap ground blind.do your scouting and in early spring lay up a blind of cut firewood around nice a comfortable tree to lean back on. stack the wood in a semicircle around yur tree up to the height you can see seated in a nice lawn chair. the deer will pay no attention to it by deer season.

Good idea.  Do you have any concerns about snakes, skunks, spiders, ants, and creatures of like import getting into your wood pile?  Isn't a lawn chair potentially noisy?  Perhaps I am thinking about the wrong variety - the folding kind with metal frame and cloth or plastic webbing.

I have effectively used piled brush, sat on a cushion on the ground, and used a Realtor's sign frame for a sturdy gun rest.  The sign frame seconds as a target stand occasionally.

Interestingly, just sitting at the base of a tree, small or large, exposed to all, squirrel hunting, I have had deer, hogs, coons, squirrel, people, etc. walk right up to investigate.  Sitting still and not broadcasting your intentions (staying mentally quiet) is sometimes enough.

I used to build some real nice blinds for duck hunting and they worked so well that twice I had people come by and start trying to steal my decoys. When suddenly the voice of the invisible man said, "Don't touch those."   They would jump right out of their skins.   :D

One of my best "stands" is a blown over mature oak.  With all the branches and limbs it provided great cover, plus it was in a natural funnel between a lake and a farm site.  Little tough to find a good sitting spot though.

One negative for blown down trees is dead leaves.  Make sure you are standing on part of the tree that is thick and does not shake when you move.

A little trimming, or a lot and you're good to go!
