I would suggest that you get a smaller gun to carry.  You have to make the choice as to what you are most comfortable with, and what you are most familiar with.
If  you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

if you dont have much handgun experience id recomend a 2 inch 38 revolver like a j frame smith. there light very packable, require very little upkeep and maintinance  and go bang every time you pull the trigger. You might want to move this post to the handgun general board though. Ill leave it for the day and let you move it yourself.

I suggest a .357 MAG either a compact ie. S&W J frame or a Ruger SP101 or a larger frame---You can shoot .38 Specials in it. As your become more proficient in its use ie. practice--you can go to the .357 MAG.
I have a Ruger SP101 in .357 MAG--The grip is rubberized and a 125 JHP .357 MAG is not unconfortable to shoot.--If the gun is not confortable to shoot a person is reluctant to practice with it and may not become proficient it in its ue. Proficientcy is a necessary in  self defence.

If you want a carry and still stay with the Single Actions, you might find something like this.

Agreed & Agreed! as you would think that the .41 would knock the perpatrator down!
My own choice would be my little .45 birds head Vaquero!
