How much to pay for a FFL transfer?

I've been looking at a couple of handguns and a shotgun to buy and am looking local and on-line.  The gunshop closest to me will do an FFL transfer for $30.  Is this a resonable rate?   I could range a little further away from home and find someone else for a little less if its worth it, but I do want to support local smaller dealers.

My FFL holder charges me $10.  Anyone else pays $20. I get the reduce rate because of the amount of business I have done with him (or sent him) over the years.  I sometimes help him at gun shows, so he also gives me 20% off of most everything I buy from him.

If you look on Auctionarms, or GonBrokers web sites, they will list FFL holders in your area by Zip code, and give the rate they charge.  Take a look, you may find a better deal.

My guy now charges $20 for transfers.
Had some not charge at all, don't expect that much, though.
$30's not terrible.  Just make sure what you get is worth it, if he can't get it for less or close. to the right price.

Life out here in the PRC is a little rougher.  In Modesto, CA I pay $65 and I had to do a lot of phoning around to find anybody who would do it. >:(

I use 2 different guys and both charge $20.00. One does the transfer happily, but he is a kitchen table gun dealer, while the other frawns on the idea because he is a stocking dealer with a large inventory. He would rather sell you the gun from his own stock or order it for you.

From a stocking dealer's view I can see his point. Personally, I'd rather pay the extra $20.00 - $30.00 difference I'd save by buying on the net, and gladly give it to the stocking dealer because when buying from him, you literally get him in the deal. For example, if you buy a scope from him, he'll mount it for free. If you have a problem with one of his guns, he will personally take care of it for you. Plus, if you buy from him, he throws in benefits like letting you use is rifle range whenever you want to go shooting.

However, there are those times when a deal on the net is just too good to pass up and the kitchen table dealer becomes worth his weight in gold. :)

there's a new gunshop in town that charges $35 and one about 25 miles away that charges $15. Guess which one I use.

My guy charges me $16 - a discounted rate for having a CCL.  Everyone else is charged $30.

When I was in college, there was a gas station about 60 miles out of town which the guy had an ffl with no charge, just to get people to come out and see him every once in a while. 

the one I've used is $25, another shop I frequent charges $50, but I would never do a transfer through them....

It is $20 instant check included with a gunsmith here in town that works out of his home shop.  The retail store front shops want $30+ $10 for instant check.  Once a guy adds shipping,  FFL and instant check, that "great deal" is not quite so great.  I only do 1 or 2 purchases that way a year.  Sheesh...already did my 2 for this year... ;)

Most people in my area (Deer Park, Texas) charge $20-30.
