XS Sights & base for 336???
« on: March 05, 2007, 05:26:07 AM »
My step son just inhereted an older 336 in 35 remington with see thru mounts and an old bushnell 3x-9x.  I would like to personalize it a little bit for him and he likes the way the XS sights and mount look.  Anyone here have experience with them?

I just got a marlin 1895 4570 with xs mount & peep sight. It had a burriss handgun scope on it. took that off, & using peep. With the xs mount I think Ill be able to use a rifle scope wich is good because the peep uses one of the holes for scope mount . I like mine the sights look real simple. thats really all the info i got for ya. Just got the gun so havent shot it alot yet
I dont care what gun Im using as long as Im hunting

How is the quality of the sight and mount?  Their sights, front and rear, and the mount run about $150 new.

It looks pretty solid, low profile too. I didnt install it so I cant comment on that. I would say quality is high. the peep & front post look real solid. The peep is kinda big . I havent shot gun off the bench yet. Just yesterday shot at pop cans about 50 yrds out using the peep. Trying to shoot fast thru peep. because peep is nice & big  You acuire the target real fast

Eskimo,

Have this combination installed on a Ruger Compact.
My heads up:
1-use the large aperture in the field to get the most light.
2-For your front post make sure it is wide enough. I got the
   max  width which was .100
If you can get closer, get closer
If you can get steadier, get steadier.

Eskimo,  These are great sights and they work far better than you think.  They are very accurate even for my old eyes.  I have scopes on most of my levers because I can't see barrel mounted sights very well.  Make sure the screws are not too long though.  The one I mounted on my bosses Guide Gun locked up the action and I couldn't figure it out.  I took it to a gunsmith and he pointed out the screws were too long.  It was easily fixed but made me feel really dumb!  Good Luck!

I have the XS Ghost Ring and another company's front post. I can't remember who makes my front post, but I wanted a narrower front post than the XS system came with. It may not be as fast as the wide post, but it offers a little more accuracy.

I really like the XS sights. I have a XS scout mount, but I have not put it on a gun yet. I installed the ghost ring and liked it so much I decided to not use a scope. Now I am looking for a .357 marlin to put the scout mount on.

I have it on my scout scoped Marlin 375.
I like it very much, its built well and seems plenty durable.

I would buy it again in a heart beat!!

cwlongshot, looks good. Very practical looking. I'll bet it serves the intended purpose? Thanks for sharing your pictures. I set up a Remington 600 Mohawk in the scout rifle configuration once but, cost and availability of parts at the time were non existent( Had to use a Burris scout mount and have it milled to match the contour of the barrel)? Turned out to be a hole to throw money. But, today......?

Its got a Leupold 2X pistol scope on it. Works out perfect. Both eyes open shooting!!
