One Ragged Hole Sights

Does anyone have these open sights on a pistol or rifle?  How do you like them?  Do they make it easier to get on target?

I have one on a RBH 45 colt with 7 1/2 bbl.
It is great as a hunting site. I can hit gallon jugs @ 100 yds.
Very easy to pick up the target. I got it use hunting hogs as a back-up or if I have to go into heavy brush looking for a wounded hog (NOT fun).

I bought a set and put them on my single six.  After one trip to the range, I replaced the sights with the original.  I just didn't shoot as well with these sights as I did with the standard sights.  I'm going to put them back on this spring and give them (and me) a good workout.  They made target acquisition much easier.  I just didn't get the hang of using the sights.

I got a reply from ORH, today.  They do not currently make any kits for the Buckmark.  I was also informed that the owner, Buck, is currently in Iraq.  I am sure he would appreciate our prayers.

I have ordered several sets from Buck (and his wife while he is overseas). I like them on some guns. I think that they are a quality product that works well from some folks on some guns. You can easily get your money back on any number of gun boards.

Buck's wife replied to me inquirey about ORH for a Buckmark.  They do not currently make them.   I am also interested in them for my H&R Tracker I slug gun and a 12ga project I am working on.  The 12ga will be getting a set of Marlin sights and they make a kit for those also.  The selling point for me was the pic they have on the site of the Ruger revolver with the ORH on it. My old eyes will like that.  ;D  Thanks for the response.

My sights came in today. I'm putting them on a Ruger Single Six. There are two appeture sizes. What size are you using on yours? The gun is going to be used for just plinking and target shooting. Is there an advantage of one over the other?

Thanks

Str8shooter48,

Please keep us posted on your opinion of the new sights.  I recently got a Ruger Single Six and have been contemplating putting on an aperture sight too.

Buck's wife has stated that most people do seem to prefer the one size over the other but she could not remember which one.  She also stated that because the are made as kits she could not sell two of one size, as has been requested.  I'm just starting to learn peep sights and handguns for that matter but thought the larger one too big to aim accurately/precisely.  That could be my inexperience though.

A friend of mine has this site on his Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt w/4 5/8" barrel........on our last camping / scouting trip together I shot it a fair amount.  Even though I am a fan of peep sights on rifles, I didn't think I would like one on a handgun, well........

My opinion is this: they make a good rear sight for fast shooting at moderate distances, but not good for precision work (aka: hitting small targets or shooting for small groups).  But for big game hunting at closer ranges, especially on a moving animal, I think it would work great.  He carries his .45 Colt & 300 grn LBT's w/ top loads recommended for only for Rugers, it's his bear protection gun, and I think it is a great set up!!

I LOVE TO HUNT!

I read, somewhere, that the smaller aperture is better if you want more accuracy and the larger one is better for closer in and quicker shots.  I just can't remember where I read that.

I sure appreciate all the input on this thread.  I really want to try these on my Tracker I-Slug/Turkey gun.  I think they will improve my accuracy...You Know...Old eyes, Bi-Focals and all that.

Thanks, again, and keep em coming.
