Range for a 22 A?
« on: March 06, 2007, 01:35:27 PM »
I just bought a S&W22-A i put a tru glo sight dot sight on it,  and i was wondering what would be a good range to set the sights in for that pistol.

Currently at 25yards, i can consistantly hit the red bullseye on a 25YRD pistol target.

Just wondering if i should set it for longer range.

I like to zero at 25 yards with a 3" bull. I take a six o'clock hold and adjust sights to shoot center, so in fact it is shooting 1 1/2" above the sights. In that way it will also be about center at fifty yards. Since the .22 rimfire is mostly used on small targets, the limiting factor is the shooters ability to hold on target. Even subsonic long rifle rounds shoot flat enough out to the practical limit of how far one can expect to hit the small critters for which a .22 is suitable.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

Spa..,

I put a red dot on my 22A. Plinking iron chickens, turkeys and pigs got boring. My son-in-law and I began shooting the ram at 100meters and hitting every time. We drew a crowd. None of them could believe we were banging the ram at 100 meters with a .22.

Set your sights .................loooooonger! And believe!

The range for me shooting a 22A is about 25 yards.  I don't know what the 22A thinks its range would be.  One of these days I hope to be good enough to find out what the range could be.

I agree with Coyotejoe.

Sight in for 50 yards dead center, and you will be about 1.5 to 2 inches high at 25 yards.     A range with a big sand backstop is great for practicing at longer ranges.  Pick one ammo and stick with it for trajectory familiarity.  Also, you will find that by holding your front sight a bit over the rear sight, you can hit football sized rocks at 100 and 150 yards.
