Not sure if I'd like them on all handis... :-\ I can see using them on say 308's or a few other calibers but I happen to like my hornet to kick'em over my shoulder when I need a second shot ..

Just my thoughts on them...

Yep. The day I have to go to an extractor, I wont. Too many good bolts, levers or semis out there.

Before you gents make any hasty decisions or remarks be sure you won't like the extractor for good reason.I just bought a new 45/70 with the extractor and the smoothness and ease of the lock up is really an eye opener.I looked at how much latch shelf engagement I had and was surprised.
Easier and tighter lock up equals better accuracy.
I'm just saying be sure before you speak.

45/70..it's almost a religion.

....hasty decisions....

No haste in my decision. I've tried them. For me, the loss of the ejector takes too much of the handy out of my Handi. Even my RBs, as old as they are, at least kick the used case out of my way. Even my shotguns will do that for me.
I use all my rifles for hunting, where I'm not interested in picking cases out. If I just punched paper or plinked, maybe I'd feel different.

Same here... I'm just going with what I've dealt with in my 2 handis... Now on my 308, I might like one but I'd like to be a choice of whether I wanted one or not... With my 308 I get some stickers oncwe in a blue moon but that's something that may on my part, but for my hornet, I'd rely on that for small and mediun size game as well as a few varmints, and may need a second shot..

As I said before just my opinion on what I've seen in them for the first time..
Not knocking...

I had one of each.
Sold my ejector barrel and sent in for extractor. (also changed cal.)
I really liked the smooth feel of my newer rifle.

P.S. I don't reload but I always try to pick up my brass and any other trash I bring.
I plan on taking my son and maybe someday a grandson hunting on the same land.

After a few months of shooting and coyote hunting, I am not impressed with the extractor on my .223 .   With thin gloves on, it is impossible to remove empty shells.  Even without gloves it helps to have good fingernails to remove a fired 223.

I have yet to try an extractor on a large rimmed case like a 30-30.   Is it easier to pull out a fired case when it has a large rim?

I like the extractor barrels...I don't have a problem grasping the shell when the rifle is fully opened..even with gloves on..I shoot with gloves on...year round too...Bob Allen shooting gloves are great in the summer.and good leather gloves with gortex and thinsulate in the winter...

If I am hunting something that will require multiple shots quickly...I use a gun that is designed to do just this...A break action single shot isn't the best platform to use for this...

For me the odd stuck case is far more of a problem than grabing the case, I happily trade some convinience for 100% reliability. Also I'm not a big fan of brass flinging all over the place either, though my ejector barrel is a 22 hornet and that little 22 hornet case can pick-up some FPS.

Poppin' that spent .22 Hornet over your shoulder keeps those sneaky squirrels from sneakin' up on you from behind. ;D
