Value of Browning 1885
« on: March 07, 2007, 07:46:13 AM »
Since I got my hours reduced by 85% I may be forced to sell a few of my rifles to pay bills.  It really is sad, but it is said that "He who cannot cast away a treasure at need is indeed in fetters"  I cannot find a value for my specific rifle in my gun value book so was hoping one of the experts here could enlighten me as to what I could reasonably expect to sell it for.  It is a Browning 1885 in 45-70 Govt.  It does have iron sights and does not have a tang.  It is in 99.9% new condition and has probably only had about 50 rounds put through it.  It could pass for NIB.  What should I ask for it?

Thanks for your help.

I've seen them going NIB at the online auction sites for around $1,000-$1,100. The ones priced at $1250 seem to close without a bid, but if they start at under $1,000 they seem to get up over before the auction ends.

If you want to move it, $800-$900 would be about right.  The rifles without the tang sights are a bit harder to sell.  What does the wood look like?  I just sold one with the tang sight for $850.  I posted it on the Leverguns site, and sold it in a couple of days.  Tom.
