is fuse/quill the only way

first off, SWEET forum guys, I'll be reading back posts for days...

I am building one of the posted plans for a GB mortar , do I have to use a fuse/quill?  or can I just tap the flash hole for a nipple and use #11 musket caps? 209 shotgun primers? (I bet those don't even need powder to lob the ball)

I am more interested for the novelty of a pull string firing than any possible effiency gains.. just a simple gravity assist pull string and it rotates the hammer up and over center where gravity takes overthus smacking the cap.

I'll heed any safety concerns if this sounds nutz, I figure it works on my rifle why not.

The major issue would be the possibility of moving the gun (not all that heavy) when you pulled to cord.

In 99% of the time I would agree.  (I'll post a picture of one of my 28 pound golf-ball mortars when I get back from work.)

Here is a pic of my GB mortar that uses musket caps. It's alot heaver than the average GB mortar so movment is not a problem.
