Wouldn't it be cool to have a Sidekick Pistol?

It's ugly, but it would be pretty cool to have one. I always wanted a muzzleloading handgun that I could shoot loads capable of taking deer out to 50 yards or so.

Who would want one? Since it is not classified as a "firearm" by the ATF, I wonder if a Sidekick could be modified into one, LEGALLY OF COURSE?

Since we are dreaming, mine would have a .25 ACP ignition and a scope.

What would yours look like?

Actually I have an H&R .410 shotgun pistol with an 8 inch barrel. I had to get it registered with the BATF as it is not by description a shotgun or a rifle or a pistol. It was manufactured as it is with choke in the barrel so it is not considered "sawed off" so the final decision was to register it on Firearm Form 1 as an "Any Other". It looks a lot like the picture. It has a wooden grip with a similar lump at the upper portion of the grip at the top rear just like what is shown. I quit carrying it as none of the local law enforcement believe that it is registered and they do not know what a Fed Firearms Form 1 is which has to be carried with the firearm at all times.  I think you might be able to shorten a sidekick legally as you mentioned since it is not a firearm. To shorten a Huntsman would however be totally illegal as you cannot use any part of a rifle or shotgun to make a pistol and the action of a Huntsman is part of a shotgun.

I guess I better find a good used Sidekick....I really like the Muzzy idea...hmmmmm  45 cal....can that happen?   .

I have one of the Traditions ones and the quality is pretty lame. The sights are basically useless. I have shot it once to finish off an elk and from five feet I missed the head. It is also very bulky and heavy but I guess in .50 cal that is to be expected. I just bought a boot pistol underhammer .45cal. kit and it is a lot more trim since it is basically a barrel with a handle. I wanted a coup-de-gras type pistol and the underhammer looks like the ticket. The kit just required some metal finishing which I did with a draw file and blueing which I did with cold blue.

It was on one of the auction sites. I will check if I have the direct contact. The guy makes them sort of one at a time and he did not have the .50 available so I took the .45. It is a very minimal structure. The trigger guard is also the hammer spring. The trigger hinges from a slot in the barrel just behind the breechplug (which is not removable). I think counting the nipple there are five parts to the whole thing. Oops six, I forgot the handle. If I could figure out how to post a picture I would do it but have never done that.

I think a Sidekick BP Pistol would be great. I would buy one.
I don't see why it would not be legal. But it would be excellent if we could get some official word to what the answer would be....

I agree that it would be illegal if made on a Huntsman frame but legal if made on a Sidekick frame, which is what this thread started out about. Even made in .50 caliber it would be nice, and different and fun to shoot also....<><....
