I need a Grain Drill

I need a grain drill.  A grain drill that works and isn't going to set me back financially.

Broadcasting seed by shoulder mounted crank seeder is not too good for getting the correct rate of application.  Sorghum seeded in this manor exceeded my wildest imagination when it hit 9.5' in elevation and choked out everything so thick it was that you couldn't see in and wildlife couldn't see out. A drill is likely the better way to spread seed for uniformity, correct rate, and ease.  I could recoup the dollars in unwasted seed.

Go to your local tool rental shop and rent a lawn seeder.
My local Gander Mountain ans a no-till drill that is meant to be pulled by an atv as well for rent.

Thanks...that's still a broadcast spreader and I am looking for an even closer tolerance placement of seed than that.

Nope, they are not broadcast, they are no-till drills.

You're right.  My mistake.  That'll set you back though if contimplating ownership.  I have seen posts from others finding $150.00 "scrap iron" that, with some elbow grease and ingenuity can be brought back to life and service.  That's what I'm trying to find.  The proverbial "diamond in the rough".

The local chapter of Pheasants Forever has a drill they loan out.

Don't know what you are looking for exactly but usually you can find some deals at farm auctions...  also, try cruising some smaller farming communities and looking for any farm equipment shops.  Alternatively try www.grainfarmer.com ... they have for sale sections and then links to farm auctions nationwide.

Still no luck in locating a Grain Drill.  The hand broadcast method leaves a lot to be desired.  I really would like the look of well placed rows.  Uses less seed so I am told.  Posted a Want Ad in the Florida Market Bulletin for August '07.  Perhaps that will help.
