Free front sight bead
« on: March 09, 2007, 07:34:06 PM »
I am working on a project stubbing off a 410 nef and re-barreling it to 30 Carbine.  It is posted on the CF NEF board with pictures if you are interested.  The fall out from this project is that I have a nice 410 brass front sight bead I will give to who ever PM's me first, I will even pay the postage.  Larry

I need to install a bead on the kids 20g.  I've never done one before.  Any hints on getting it lined up properly to drill and tap the hole?

Thanks,
Jon

I see the dead center locator tool for vent rib barrels, but didn't see anything to help with a standard barrel.  Did I miss it?

I may run a strip of blue masking tape down the top and eyeball the edge of it down top dead center while shouldering the gun.

You're right, Jon, there is nothing for that.  Sorry, I thought I had seen it there.  I must have remembered seeing the tool for a vent-rib.  My idea for that was to use the firing pin on the one end and the existing bead on the other and using a punch or scribe to make a mark somewhere in between.  I guess that won't work if you have already taken of the end of the barrel with the bead on it.   Hmmm.  Will have to give that some thought.
