URGENT ALERT – GUN BILLS ON THE MOVE NEXT WEEK
Please read the following alert very carefully. There are some specific things that you must do to help continue the fight for your gun rights:
SENATE BILLS WE OPPOSE: Starting Monday afternoon, we need you to once again contact your State Senator and tell them that you are a law-abiding Illinois firearm owner and that you’d like them to:
1. Oppose SB16 – the ban on so-called Assault Weapons (bill applies only to law-abiding citizens, criminals won’t have their guns banned or confiscated)
2. Oppose SB102 – a scheme to ration gun purchases to one per month for law abiding citizens (of course, there is no provision for rationing guns for criminals)
3. Oppose SB1399 – a state dealer-licensing scheme that would make it impossible for your favorite gun shop to stay in business
4. Oppose SB1471 – a plan to ban .50 caliber firearms even though there is no evidence to suggest that these guns pose a threat – they just “look” scary
SENATE BILLS WE SUPPORT: While you have your Senator on the phone, ask him or her to:
1. Support SB348 – a bill that would allow qualified law-abiding citizens to carry defensive firearms to defend themselves and their families from criminal attack
2. Support SB458 – a bill that would prevent local authorities from banning hunting rifles
3. Support SB501 – a bill that would prevent local authorities from banning rifles, shotguns and/or rifle and shotgun ammunition
4. Support SB721 – a bill to simplify and standardize firearm transportation regulations state-wide by ending the current patchwork of regulations.
HOUSE BILLS WE OPPOSE: Starting Monday afternoon, we need you to once again contact your State Representative and tell them that you are a law-abiding Illinois firearm owner and that you’d like them to:
1. Oppose HB731 – a scheme to render your firearms useless in your own home
2. Oppose HB758 – a bill that would prohibit you from selling your guns to your shooting buddies and force you to make all sales through a dealer (assuming there are any left in business)
3. Oppose HB796 - a state dealer-licensing scheme that would make it impossible for your favorite gun shop to stay in business
4. Oppose HB873 – the House version of the ban on so-called Assault Weapons (bill applies only to law-abiding citizens, criminals won’t have their guns banned or confiscated)
5. Oppose HB1078 - a scheme to ration gun purchases to one per month for law abiding citizens (of course, there is no provision for rationing guns for criminals)
6. Oppose HB1503 – a ban on air guns
7. Oppose HB1696 – a bill that allows the State Police to revoke your FOID card if you do not report if a firearm stolen from you
8. Oppose HB1793 – a bill that would send you to jail if you were transporting a firearm in your car and you drove within 1,000 feet of a bus, a train, a bus stop, a train station or any other conveyance or facility operated by a public transportation agency
9. Oppose HB3633 – a bill that would require confiscation of your FOID card and guns if someone swore out an order of protection against you
HOUSE BILLS WE SUPPORT: While you have your State Representative on the phone, ask him or her to:
1. Support HB704 - a bill that would prevent local authorities from banning hunting rifles
2. Support HB1304 - a bill that would allow qualified law-abiding citizens to carry defensive firearms to defend themselves and their families from criminal attack
3. Support HB1320 – a bill that would allow judges, prosecutors, and public defenders to carry concealed firearms
4. Support HB1757 - a bill to simplify and standardize firearm transportation regulations state-wide by ending the current patchwork of regulations
REMEMBER – YOUR CALLS TO YOUR LEGISLATORS ARE IMPORTANT! If you do not know who your State Senator and State Representative are, then go to the General Assembly’s web site at
www.ilga.gov/ and click on the “legislator lookup” link in the lower right hand corner. Follow the instructions and the link will search for your state senator and state representative. Or, you may call the Capitol Switchboard at (217) 782-2000 and they will put you in touch with your senator or representative.
REMEMBER – BE POLITE, YET FIRM!
SPECIAL MESSAGE ABOUT THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA APPEALS COURT RULING…
As many of you know, the DC Appeals Court ruled today that several of Washington DC’s gun laws were illegal. On the surface, this may appear to be a victory for the 2nd Amendment. However, the decision is very complex so the true meaning is not yet known. A team of ISRA lawyers is evaluating the decision. We will communicate their findings to you in an alert later in the week.
Thank you!

THOUGHT OF THE DAY
Guns only have two enemies: rust and politicians.
