Which bullet for coyotes?
« on: March 11, 2007, 01:21:33 AM »
I was browsing the Midway .224 bullet section and discovered something. There's a bunch of them! Any suggestions on which bullet to use for coyote hunting? I would like to stay in the 50 grain range, but if anyone has experiance with lighter bullets in the .223 Rem, please post your comments. Thanks. ;D

I like the V-Max bullets.  Some have issues with them on coyotes, but they work for me.  If you're looking for a cheaper bullet the Midway Dogtown band works well too.  I've shot a bunch of them at prairie dogs and coyotes and they've always worked great for me.

 ::) ::) ;D on the bullet...
You are in the ballpark on the 50gr weight and I like to use a 55gr but that is in the .22-250
The heavier bullet weight might come in handy if you have to pull off one of the (south Texas Heart shots) like onecoyte was saying in the other thread.

These guys really will cause me to try out the Vmax one day...I would suspect that a 50gr would work just fine. We also need to get oso45-70 in here to fill us in on the Calhoon bullets that I had always meant to try.

one of the best 50 gr. loads I have found is the American Eagle(federal) factory load,,,Hp.,flat base,, 3400 fps ,I get all I want for $5  a box at the local shows as no one here buys American Eagle,,should be the berrys on about anything you would use a .223 on.

I use the 55gr Nosler BT and occasssionally the 55gr Vmax. Both bullets are extremely accurate and both are terminal.
