banner or whitetail classic
« on: March 12, 2007, 12:47:58 PM »
I know just down the posts from here someone is asking if they should get the banner or the simmons.  I was wondering something similar, but I need help sorta quick 'cause I'd like to see If I can order one tonight and have it by Fri. for some shooting.  I read really good reviews for both the whitetail classic 6.5-20 and the banner 6-18 on midway.  The classic is $99 on swfa.com and the banner is $118 (although it called it an airgun scope, I've never seen that).  I may order tonight still if I can.  The best part is I got permission from the boss already.  Help.

Simmons WTC has very coarse crosshairs.  The 3.5-10 WTC that I have has the same heavy duplex.  It is great for contrast against brush.  But....turned up to 16-18x?  No way.  Go with the Banner.  Bushnell won't charge you $10 if it craps out like Simmons either.  I have 3 Simmons scopes but that particular model is too big and has too coarse of a reticle.

I thought that the wtc 6.5-20 had the truplex reticle with the thin crosshairs in the middle part.  I like my 3-9 banner, too.  I'm having a real rough time deciding between the 6-18x50 or the 6-24x40 though.  I never really shoot in low light conditions, but it may be nice to know I can - so maybe the bigger objective lense would be better. I dunno.

i had the banner and it maybe good in low light, but a sunshade is not availible. if you plan to shoot varmints with it get a scope that has a sun shade. if you point those 50mm lense in the general direction of the sun you get a lot of glare.

thanks, I never thought of it like that.  I wish I could find a place that carried all the scopes I'm considering so I could look through them.

There are flexible sunshades available for optics that don't accommodate a threaded shade.
