Will a handi survivor stock set fit a Handy Gun II?
« on: March 12, 2007, 02:17:28 PM »
LOL no I'm not making this up! See the pictures below. I would like to fit a survivor stock set to this ancient ancestor to the handi-rifle in a 357/20ga combo format. Does anybody have any notion if one would fit? I suspect it will but a little conformation would be nice.

Looks like it would. I am sure Quick will give you an answer.

It will bolt right on, go for it!!!....<><.... ;D

Also that stock has the smaller and less protruding pistol grip and many of the early stocks were actually walunt and refinish very well. I have reconfigured a couple of those early walnut stocks into the straight english squire style they come out real nice looking. If it is walnut and you ever want to sell or trade it please let me know, not all of that style were walnut however, I have one like that that is birch. Thanks and good luck wiith the survivor stock, all modern H&R/NEF stocks will fit that gun with the exception of ten 10 gauge/USH 12 gauge stocks....<><.... :)

also in case you run into a problem with the foream screw it is probably a 1/4x28 instead of the newer 1/4x20 thread. A flat head metric 6/16 or 4x16 and hold on a regular wooden forearm.  If you order a Survivor buttstock from Chaote Machine and get the "Storearm Forearm" that goes with it Choate supplies both a 1/4x20 and a 1/4x28 threaded special screw to hold the forearm on, if you want I think you can buy just the screw from them....<><.... :)

 Thanks for the compliments!

the main reason for my asking is I know for a fact that topper/handi barrels will not come close to fitting this receiver.

I've been shopping around and I'm kinda wonder'n how one of those collapsible stocks would fit into my Jeep rifle theme I'm trying to put together

I've got a 158 Topper made in 1972, modern stocks will fit it, although the forend hanger is a little different. Some older models had a snap on forend also.

I think the barrel fitting back then didn't have as close a tolerance as they do now, even tho they aren't precise now, they're a lot closer. The 1972 Topper barrel underlug is a good .100" longer than a modern underlug, but others have old model barrels that fit fine on late frames.
