Scope rings for a Marlin Model 60
« on: March 12, 2007, 02:17:31 PM »
I want to purchase a scope for a Marlin Model 60 with either a 28mm or 32mm objective lense.

I'm looking for a recommendation on what make of rings to use and whether I'd need low or medium rings.
I would like to mount it as low as possible but I'm unsure what's needed to clear the rear iron sight.

I understand that scopes on the Model 60's can be nutorious for creeping/walking along the dovetail and that a multi-screw base may be the best option.

I'm open to all options and would be glad to hear your opinions.
Please be specific as possible with your recommendations (mfgr., model, part #, etc.) as I'm somewhat of a noob in this area.

Thanks

If you are going to put a scope on it why not just take off the rear sight? You could mount the scope low then and not worry about it hitting anything. I don't think you would have any trouble with scope mounts "walking" as long as they are good and tight. I use a set of Weaver mounts for a 3/8 groove.

That's one option, but I wasn't planning on removing the open sights.

Anyone else?

I drilled and tapped the receivers on both of my model 60 rifles for a 10-32 Allen head machine screw. With this setup you can use any scope mount you might have laying around.  The scope will absolutely not walk off the rear of the receiver. Looks sorta cobby in the picture but no one has ever noticed it until I pointed it out.  You have to make sure the screw doesn't protrude down in receiver enough to contact the bolt.
