870 express. can it upgrade to a magnum

ive got a tax return coming back soon and i have thouroghly enjoyed shoooting my friends 870 express magnum so i have been looking at them for purchase. the gentleman at the local Big 5 has some 870 expresses for $279. however i i would like the magnum. the gentleman behind the counter says that he is not sure but he beleives you can upgrade to the magnum with a kit. so i was wondering if this was possible. if so how much does it cost.

The one they have should handle 3" shells. Do you mean the Super-Mag? 3.5" shells?  If not, then the standard is what you want.

The only upgrade kit I know of is for the Full and Improved Cylinder choke tubes, cuz the express comes with a Modified only.

the guy you talked to is wrong.  There is no way to change from a standard receiver that will handle 3 in magnums as well as 2 3/4in shells to a 3.5 magnum.  Look at the receiver it should say what shells can be used.  Mine does.  Unless you are really into recoil or long range turkey , I see no reason for a 3.5 in mag.  The 3 in mag is enough for me.i

Shooting a 3.5" turkey round out of my cousins 870 super mag made me never want one for myself, LOL

The kid enjoys pain. He is 5'8" and no more than 110 lbs. You should his body lurch when taking the recoil, I should get it on tape and post it on youtube
