MP night sights factory or add on?

Going to buy a Smith MP on Saturday, can get factory night sights on the gun for $80.00 extra.  Should I get them or get some add on later, no nothing about night sights as to whats good or bad.

At that price I think I would go for the standard sights, and invest a few dollars more and add a set of Crimson Trace Laser sights to the gun.  It will make for a more effective weapon in low light or night time conditions than the factory night sights. I have both the night sights, and CT Grip Laser on two Sigs, to me, spending the money for the night sighrs was a waste.

heres my take on it. My self defense guns all do triple duty. There bedstand guns sometimes Somtimes truck guns and sometimes ccw guns. A guy like me allready confuses things enough by swithing guns he uses. A man should really practice ALOT with one gun. When crap hits the fan you dont want to have to think about gadgets and doodas. You probably will only have time to point and shoot. Lazers and gun lights have there place in home defense but under the heat of an encounter you have to have the presents of mind to use them properly and id dont think many do. KISS (keep it simple) is usually the best method. I like nights sights on a defense gun. They may not be ideal under every circumstance but if you practice with them they can be very effective. There on the gun all the time and theres no turning them on and off and they dont effect the way you carry your gun. What i do for home defense is use a night sighted gun and keep one in a few strategic places along with a good flashlight. Im not a real believer in 300 dollar flashlights either. Maybe if i was a police officer i could justify it but a good maglight does me fine. Again practice with it. Get in the habbit of everytime you pick your gun up you pick your light up. KEEP THEM RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER. Dont borrow the light for something else as it wont come back. One sight set up i really like and have played with but havent done one yet is putting just a front trinium sight on a gun. Most incounters are at about point blank range and if you waste time trying to line up sights your probably going to be shot. With one sight you just put the dot on the target and shoot. It may be the best defense sight idea going. Personaly i think a seperate light is the way to go. That way when you need to light up a room your not having to use your gun to do it. Lazer grips might be fine for some circumstances but you still need to see your target and shoot and if you forget to use them or fumble using them or even take to long trying to put a bouncing dot on a target your probably going to be to late. Where a weapons light really comes into its own is on a rifle or shotgun that requires two hands to operate. Theres probably not a more leathal home defence gun the a pump shotgun with a light attached. But there hard to pack in a in the waist band holster

LLoyd.  Have you looked at/used a Crimson Trace Laser Grip?  All one has to do is grip the gun and the site comes on.  No extra buttons, no muss, no fuss.  It is as natural as can be.

The CT grip is by far better than tryiong to hold a flashlight (Although I do recommend one at night), and much easier to used than a flashlight.   The laser emits enough light that I can see the target outline fairly well out to about 30 yards, even with my corrected eyesight, and in the darkness of night.

Ideally, both sites would be great, but at the price quoted, I would spend the extra money and add the CT grips.  JMHO,

if your saying that it cant be turned off and is on everytime you grip your gun id be nervous about the fact id be broadcasting my position when comming around a corner in the dark and also giving a bad guy a pretty good target to shoot at. Im nots saying that lazer grips are great for alot of purposes. I think there a wonder aid for law enforcement people that are trained in there use. But ill still go back to a handgun and a flashlight myself. Probably more then anything because thats what ive practiced. Im no expert on this and havent had to use one in my house yet. So im surely not saying i have all the answers just an opinion. Im sure someone who pratices with a lazer and a weapons mounted light and finds it works for them would argue with me.

If you want night sights it's cheaper to get them on the gun.  Aftermarket night sights are coming for the M&P, but I don't think any are available yet, but will be soon.  Crimson Trace has already announced a product for the M&P, I'm not sure if it's available yet, if not it should be available soon. 

The M&P pistols are the hottest thing going right now, it takes a while for accessories to be available, there's a fair amount of goodies available now, and more coming all the time.
