Well here she is, sorry bout the white cloth, I shoulda used somthin else and waited for a sunny day. But untill next time. Thanks again GB for making this sight for us all to enjoy, Thanks to all those knolegeable folks out there that are willing to help everyone, and thanks to Partsman, for the helpfull tips with the locktight removal.

Ya I know what you mean jeepman, thats what everybody said when i moved up to Wy. I just wished i could find the time to get out more to go shooting and hunting and fishing, and well you get the idea

. I cant wait to shoot it and try that new peep out for distance! I prolly wont for a while though.

lol! BUT i am ambidexdrious with pistols and light rifles. I wouldnt consider the 45/70 a "light" rifle though

Thanks for this posting. I've been thinking about ordering this sight for ages now, but I was afraid it was too bulky for hunting purposes and I have never been able to find a picture of it before. It looks good....nice and compact. Just what the doctor ordered for my BC.

One question....that looks like the original front sight. Does this Williams model not need a different/higher front sight?

Definatly JWM! I know what you mean! Quick posted a pic of his a while back and i got to asking about it and thinking about it and then i orderd one from NEFs websight. I havnt shot it yet, but i cant wait to! I dont think that the front sight matters, if you sight it in with the peep on then youl be fine no matter what kind of front sight is on there as far as i know.

I have that same sight on my 500 magnum, complete with target knobs. I like the sight, but it extends passed the end of the breech and makes removing shells a little bit difficult since you have to get your fingers under it. Overall with a little bit of practice quick reloading is not hard, and I was able to do just that while hunting this past year.

Ya, i bet that its a pain with all the new rifles having extracters instead of ejecters. My BC has a extracter and i have learned to catch the brass as it flys out. that is one down side of the FP sight though. But its worth it cuz its compact and still get the job done with authority. Just my .02 cents.

Nice rifle Henry...very nice...and no...it's not a pain with the extractors...well...maybe for some...and if it was a rim fire for me anyway...but...you shouldn't have any problem once you get used to them...Positive extraction is not a bad thing for some of us...and you shouldn't need more than 1 shot with the 45-70 anyway

Hello all, just wanted to resurrect this thread to thank henry1 and everyone else who chimed in regarding this sight for the BC. I finally received the one that I ordered and shot my BC with it today for the first time. I wish that I had done this years ago. The micrometer adjustments are great, especially compared to the "loosen and pray" sight adjustments required with the original rear sight. I got the model without the target knobs, as I thought that it would be a little better for hunting, more compact and less easily misadjusted by accident. My BC is an older model with the ejector, which throws the empties WAY out there, so the overhang is of no concern to me.
I couldn't be happier with this setup. If I could just get some of the LeverEvolution ammo in .45-70 up here in Canuckistan, I'd be all set. That stuff is very hard to find up here.

One question...I found that I had to dress down the length of both of the mounting screws to prevent them from bottoming in the holes before the sight was securely tightened. I notice that the rear screw in henry1's picture looks a bit odd as well. Is this a common condition with these things?

Was there ever a scope base mounted to the barrel? That's usually the probem, they'll be thread locker in the bottom of the holes. There have been many complaints about holes being too shallow, but the usual culprit is just thread locker in the bottom of the holes, those that have taken the effort to clean the holes so the bottom is shiny, don't have a problem. But it's always possible the mount holes were drilled too shallow or the wrong screws were included with the sight, too. $:-\$

It's a nice rifle for sure. I really enjoy shooting mine. I'm curious how you get along with that front sight, it's taller than mine and I'm gonna put the .404 height sight on to get more elevation...

I have a 32" bbl being fitted, I have a handful of Lyman 20's and 93's, but all are in the .7" ht + category. Much too high I figure. Quick wrote that the 17A is factory fitted, but what height: .404 .494 or .584.? Grizz, ( or anyone) what do you have now that you need more elev, in relation to what rear ht? I have several FP TK's lying around, so I'll use one of those. Will using .404 work well with the FP ( using 400gr at 1800fps+/- ) from 100 yds to 600?

I'm leary since I've read on several sites that it's "too high" in the same breath as " too low". . .but those gents didn't state what height they had in relation to what rear, nor what distance they were talking about. I shoot 1000K also, so I'm not taking "too high" for granted. I've only discovered these NEF's in the last several months, so I'm stumbling around like an idiot. The 32" will not be for anything further than 500 yds., and I don't want to shim the rear. I won't be getting the 32" in my hands for another month ++, so I'm in the dark at the moment.

As near as I can figure, the BC comes with either a .584"(mine did), or a .494", as lots have had no problems with shooting 100yds with 400gr-500gr bullets using the WGRS. Mine with the .584" sight was 6-8" low at 50yds with the WGRS at the top of the ramp. Swapped it out for the .404" and installed the FP Target sight, impact with 405gr Rems and 39gr of AA5744 in the .45-120 were 1½" high at 100yds with the FP aperture bottomed out. Bernie(dodd3) had the same experience with his 45-70 BC, he shoots to ~500yds with the FP/.404" sight with 500gr GC cast bullets, he goes to 800yds with the Smith sight.

I was one of those lucky people who got a BC with no sights. I don't hunt, I just like to shoot target. I'm new to the .45-70 and want to get into medium to long range practice. Could someone post a webpage for the FP rear sights and the appropriate front sights?

See "Peep and Firesights" in the FAQs and Help sticky, the FP sight is shown in there. The best source I've seen for the 17A Lyman is at Buffalo Arms.

I haven't shot my BC to the limit of its range, but the wgrs is halfway right now, I don't imagine it's gonna elevate much before it runs out.

It seems like 'about' an eighty yard zero with 425g, but not sure. What I don't know is how much I can elevate that load with what I have left, but I'm pretty sure the 525s are gonna run out of room. I definately plan to go to the lower sight, hoping to get a shot at 1000yd steel buffalo this year.
