I just finished my .22 rifle
« on: March 16, 2007, 11:12:09 AM »
This is a Mossberg model 146b. I bought it at a pawnshop for fifty bucks back in 1998. I have never shot nor seen a more accurate rifle in my life.

In january i started working on it. It had quiet a few pits and dings in the stock and it was a very ugly light tan color. So i refinished the stock, and airbrushed the barrrel.

This is the first gun i have ever done.

Sparky,
Did you get the aperature sights that the gun was originally sold with? I have a 146B too. Out of the six 22's I own it is by far the most accurate. Mine came with the Mossberg 130 apperature sights and I would rather use them than a scope......JJ

You gotta love those pawn shop deals-a little rough around the edges but lotsa potential. I like your air brushing. I wish I had that kinda skill

Great job sparkyjan14, if you could do the same paint job with flat or matte finish (non-reflective, non-shiny) paint it would be great for a varmint gun barrel...How difficult is it to do? Do you know if there are flat finish paints available that would work through an airbrush?....<><....   :)

Sorry guy, paint just has no place on a rifle.  Larry

I am sort of an old fashioned traditionalist myself Larry but many guys camo up their rifles, working guns at least and not "for show" guns, for when they go out varmint hunting and such. Many like myself may use an easily removable camo paint made in different colors that archers (myself included)  use on their bows for deer hunting to cover up the shiny and sometimes quite bright bows manufactured recently. For an older "working" gun or one beat up from many happy years in the field but well maintained, a camo paint job could hide a multitude of scars and discolorations. I think an airbrush could do a much nicer job than an old paintbrush, it may not be classic but at least is can look it's best....<><.... :)

No place on rifles?
There have been various military weapons that have had bake on paint as the finish ?
That is a nice looking rifle.

I could understand the French having painted rifles, they only drop them once, on a real rifle the finish has to be part of the rifle, not something stuck on top of it.  Larry

I like the paint job. Is that the bolt handle that comes stock on that rifle? Very cool.
