AK or CETME ? Opnions Please.
« on: May 14, 2003, 06:25:30 AM »
I have not posted in a while, but since my M-44, I have picked up a nice K-31.  I was also looking at an AK ( SAR 1,2, or 3) or a CETME as the next my wife does not know purchase.  I know that an AR or M-1 may be a better weapon, but for around $300 the others can not be bad if something goes very wrong.  Ammo will be available for both more readily than a 7.5 swiss.  The sks will be a purchase also, but I can tell the wife about that one because it is cheap.  I have checked several sights, read reviews, but would like human feedback on this one.

Thanks in advance,
David

Ok I have a Cetme .308 and its ok and probably the best semi I have ever shot its an awesome gun and the price is soon to go up. But there has been some bad ones too and you may have to fix it if it is bad. Now is most likely the best time to buy a SKS the yugo's are running low in supply and will be gone shortly Aim surplus will have some more soon but not for long. The romanian SAR is another good buy but in 5.45x39 ammo is a little more expensive  and the .223 is higher priced so the 7.62x39 is the ticket its cheaper ammo of course it depends how much you are going to shoot it too. But 7.62x39 fits both sks and the SAR you only need one supply of ammo in this caliber fits both guns? That sure rings my bell for sure and cheap too so two rings ok. The Cetme is around $399 list, the Romanian SAR is about $359 list and the Yugo depends on what condition it is Aim has dealer/C&R prices at  $109 shooter grade, $129.95 Excellent condition and $149 for like new condition its your call which one and which gun. My Cetme is number one for shooting and handling but beware it chews thru ammo(1,000rds/$149) its a problem finger thing you just have to bang away with it and its that much fun the Hakim is second choice for big bore semi's. With that said now the smaller semi's the Yugo vs. SAR the only difference is price but the SAR is brand new but one is metal stamped reciever and the other is rock solid machined reciever the choice is yours I hope i helped. Its a balance between yugo's becomming scarce or Cetme's prices going higher or Romanian's that are inbetween the two others I like all three so I know its a tough call.        BigBill

For sure a SAR in .223 or 7.62x39. Best buy out there in a military configuration.

I can't buy a SAR in 7.62x39 in Ct. its not allowed here or any AK type weapon in that bad 7.62x39 its BANNED in Ct. and even if you move to this state and have one you have to get rid of it and if you have one before the ban its registered to you and you can't sell it. But I can own the other two calibers in the SAR funny??  Right now the Cetme and the SAR are the hottest sellers talking to a local dealer.  Everytime they talk about gun bans the sales go up so much on these weapons they actually make it worse they actually make most buy them who never would because thay may want to buy one in the future and won't be able to. Which their right I held off on an AK and now I can't own one here in 7.62x39 so I missed out. But I can buy sks's that take ak mags go figure??                 BigBill

Thanks for the reply.  I am leaning more toward the CETME, it just feels more solid and sturdy.  The possibility of legislation, does make me want to move more quickly.  The AK has just alway been on my "guns to own if I have nothing else to spend the money on" list.  I am getting a little worried in that I read an article in the Shotgun News before you did.   Thanks again for the advice, and I know this is the wrong post, but how did the situation with Old Gun Supply turn out?
