SASS legal main match revolver?
« on: March 17, 2007, 04:17:25 AM »
Does anyone here know if the Colt 1862 police would be a SASS legal main match revolver? Seems to me that a pair of them would be great for shooting Duelest catagory! Thanks,

Ned Christy

Been a while since I shot but I think it is ok as long as it has a safety notch for the hammer to rest in.

I've got one. I'm not sure who made it.

For me, the gun is a bit on the small side... a little hard to hang onto.

Is it a Uberti or a Pietta?

If Uberti - No.

If Pietta - Yes.

Why isn't the Uberti legal?

The Uberti is a 5 shot and the Pietta is a 6 shot. With the Uberti you won't have an empty chamber to rest the hammer on, unless it has the safety notches between the chambers.  I have 2 of the Pietta 1862's, from Cabelas, one the police model and the other the snubnose. They both do quite well as main match guns, although the snubnose  takes more effort to load, it makes a dandy cross draw belly gun.

Mine is a Pietta and a 6 shot. Didn't know they made a 5 shot. Depending on the club, you might be required to cap the 5th cylinder on the clock to be legal on a 5 shot.
