Thats great Dale, thanks for the informal poll. I was surprised by the popularity of the 30-06 in the Handi. I have one and it has long been one of my favorite calibers but you don't see it discussed much here. As an aside I agree on each and every one of the picks, they are all fine cartridges....<><....

I think why the 06  is so quiet amoung handi owners is the fact that it work and works well , so people don't need to find ways to tweek it , they just shoot it .

Very true, sometimes consistent and predictable makes for a boring subject.
I think its the challange to make a certain caliber perform and the 06 already will do that without help.

I also might add that the top 3 were or are military.With the 4th being the the 30-30 which saw so much use that it could almost fall into that category.
Adding a inherited fondness possibly for these cartridges, or in the 223 case cheap componets.Grandpa and Pa used them, an't broke don't fix it mentality.
