Rossi 17HMR Problem
« on: March 19, 2007, 04:18:22 PM »
While shooting this gun which is only a couple of months old, I experienced 6 missfires using an assortment of ammunition.  This was out of 75 rounds fired today.  In all cases the rounds fired when I recocked the gun and tried again.  The gun had been reliable until this shooting session.  Any recomendations on items to check?

Maybe you got some debris lodged in the firing pin hole impairing the firing pin from striking solidly.  Another possibility is a week hammer spring. I would try a good cleaning, taking care to clean in and around the firing pin hole, and see if that doesn't take care of it first before I would panic.

As a followup on this, I discovered that a hammer extension I had on the Hammer was occasionally hitting the release lever.  After readjusting the extension, I fired a box of 50 rounds with no failures.

That's great news Mardrobe. Glad you found the problem before you had to spend a lot of time or money and that it was an easy fix.  Good luck with it and we will be looking for a range report from you.  ;)
