Two Tone Blue

Hello,
I am doing some homework before I purchase my first Dan Wesson. I have read several posts here and on other websites that have convinced me this is the next piece to add to my collection. I am looking at the 357 in either blue or stainless. Several of the pictures that I have seen on gunbroker.com of the blue version appear to have two different tones of blue. Is this normal? Or is it an indication that the revolver is composed of parts from multiple guns?

Dan Wessons blueing is called deep blue it almost looks black. So I think the differences might be in the quality at different times but more in the care of the gun. Someone else might come in with a better answer I am a stainless fan.

You can see in Item # 68224409 it all looks black this is the deep blue

and in Item # 67650131 the two tone look.

I think you can not go wrong adding a Dan Wesson to your collection there are many who would never own one but the ones that do say they will not sell it and the ones that have wish they didnt.

Yes they can be two toned. I have a .41 that I bought new back in the 80s and when it arrived the frame was a purple color while the barrel was the deep blue. The dealer sent it back and they reblued it. It came back black but it changed back to the purple color after a year or so. One thing is it stopped after it got to a point. I asked a local smith that did a lot of reblueing about it and he said it had to do with the base metal. He also said some of the Winchester model 12s receivers would do the same thing.

I have a Norwich manufactured model 15 that is deep blue, except for the cylinder, which is purple tinted.  It came that way, and I also have been told it has to do with the base metal.  Doesn't bother me, and it shoots just fine.  It has not changed at all in the three years since it came to me from the factory.

Same here early Monson 44 mag. I think it looks nice and aged. Frame is deep blue and cylinder is deep purple (great band)
