.35 Whelen & Round Nose Bullets

Anyone have any experience loading 250 grain round nose bullets for the .35 Whelen?  Just curious as to your experience on game with the loads, what velocity they were running and any other info you'd like to share.  I've got a load for my Remington CDL 700 that shoots well (with Lyman 57 sights) using IMR 4064, 250 Grain Speer Hot-Cor's @ 2450 fps.  It seems this rifle likes the 250 grainers better than the 225s and I'm thinking of trying some round nose (as well as some Nosler Partitions).

I had a great load with the hornady 250gr RN and varget for just over 2400fps but was extremely accurate and a great performer on game.

I load only Nosler 250gr Partitions in my .35 Whelens and .350 Rem Mags.  I like them for Moose and Black Bears.  The only Moose shot with them was a close range (40yrds) bullet passed right through.  They are devistating on Black Bear at 15 to 30 yards.

The Hornady 250 grain round nose is a great game bullet. If you like to do your hunting before you pull the trigger, the Whelen is the answer.  ;D

TNrifleman is correct!   Last fall I used Hornady 250 gr RN behind 57gr of Reloader 15 to take a trophy red stag at about 75 yards.  The stag went about 20 yards before piling up with a high lung shot.   The Hornady bullets group under 1" at 100 yards in my Remington CDL 35 Whelen.    Old fashioned heavy round nose bullets and the Whelen are made for each other!

I loaded up my Remington 700 CDL 35 Whelen with some 250 RN Hornady and it shot a nice triangular 3 shot group.One side measured just under 5/8ths of an inch and the other side measured 7/8ths of an inch at 100 yards.
These were the first few rounds down the tube after buying it and I'm impressed by the accuracy. The recoil was quite a bit less than the .338 mag I recently sold.
I am definitely a 35 Whelen fan............

Don't own a Whelen (yet) but I've noticed some variation in rates of twist from manufacturer to manufacturer..  One other plus for the 250 gr. round nose is that it's shorter length may  help a slower twist barrel utilize the 250 gr. weight more effectively.
