What scope for the 1895 ?
« on: March 21, 2007, 02:03:50 PM »
Well guys I have decided I will get the 45-70 1895 with pistol grip and 22'' barrel. I think I would like to put the Burris 3x9x40 with Bplex recticle. Has anyone out there put this scope on a 45-70 also if you have how did the Bplex recticle work on it. I am not sure this is the scope for it and I would like to hear from you with sugestions. I would be using this gun for deer, black bear and hogs. I think the furthest I would be shooting would be 200 yards but that would be rare. Most would be 150 or less. I hope you guys would give me your input thanks. ;D

It depends on the scope mount you use...I was using the XS Lever Scout which was OK and I used a Bushnell 4x shotgun scope with long eye relief...I am in process of changing the mount to Weaver type bases on top the receiver and will more than likely use a Weaver K4.

I started out with the Leupold 1pc base and W/A turn in rings on my XLR...and the rear rings failed...Took them back...ordered a Warne 2pc Weaver base and put on a set of Leupold QRW (Quick Release) rings...and won't every use another type set up again...I'm looking at the new QRW Dura-Sights Z2 rings to try out...the regular ones are good rings...and these look very promising...I've got a couple sets on my CVA's Optima Elites and like them a-lot too....I use a Leupold VX-1 scope 2x7x33 on it...and love it...They now have a Long range (LR= dots) reticle version that I will be upgrading my scope to that works great too...These scopes hold up to heavy use..and haven't failed me yet...and are brighter & clearer than scopes costing hundreds more...Better grade optics always cost more..but worth it in the end..

I have a Silver Leuplod VXI 3X9X40 on my SS 1895GS. Works great in low light conditions. I am not a big Burris fan.

I use a Burris Fullfield II on one rifle and it is one of the clearest sight pictures of all my scopes..They advertise 98% light transmission.I believe it...For around $150 I think it is comparable to any other in that price range...

I have Leupold 1 - 4 Shotgun scope with heavy reticle on my guide gun. I'm using Warne mounts because I'll know they'll stand up to the recoil. I'm also using the high rings, which work for me and allow me to get my thumb around the receiver for carry.

Scope: Nikon Monarch 1.5-4 with Turkey Plex.
Rail mount
Rings: Warne quick release

The turykey plex allows fast sight picture and the detachable is nice for going through the brush and using the iron sights.

Burris is a bit pricey in Canada. I put a Bushy Elite 3200 3-9X(silver) on my 45-70 XLR. Looks great, shoots great. I used Millet turn-in mounts and Burris Signature rings with the self aligning inserts.
