m1 carbine barrel band
« on: March 22, 2007, 09:12:47 AM »
My m1 carbine I inherited is missing only 1 piece to be complete. It has the barrel band with the bayonet lug on it, but somebody cut the rectangularish sling swivel off it. I still have the entire barrel band intact, including the rolled metal piece that held the swivel on, I just lack the floppy bit you thread the sling through. I would rather have some non-standard piece I could use to connect the sling to the band rather than replace the whole band withe a new one with different parkerizing color. Anybody have any ideas? (pic is not of my band. mine is in good shape.)

Sure, haven't you ever seen a GI coathanger? I think they were only issued to generals, very rare.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

I know that you were probably joking about the GI coat hanger,
But did you know that there actually was one ? It was a folding metal rod with
a chain in each end that hooked together. My Neighbor had one with his old Navy P-coat ..The only other time I have ever seen one used was in the movie  "Raiders of the Lost Ark" ... One of the German officers unfolded and used one... (or one similar to it) Another one of those useless bits of information I really need to over-write in my brain with something more profitable I guess  :-\...
Gun parts corp. may have the sling swivel you are looking for.
