Comments on the Browning auto 22

I would like to hear coments good and bad on the Browning 22 auto rifle.

Are you taliking about the ATD? I have had one for years and with the scope base mounted to the barrel, it goes together and shoots good every time. I have to fine tune it sometimes with the friction ring but for a utility rifle that will fit in small places, it is a great gun.

I'm talking about the take down model auto rifle.  Not sure if it's called a ATD.  How well does it group ?

I have the Browning takedown.  I purchased it in 1973 or 74.   This rifle shoots best with standard velocity ammunition.  I have tried others: Stinger, Eley low velocity target,  etc.  For some reason it does its best with standard velocity 40 Gr.   I have the American version of this rifle.  It is a Remington model 24.  It was made sometime in the late twenties.  It also likes standard velocity ammo.  Both are reliable and they haven't broken.  As far as accuracy, about one and a half to two inches is the best I can do at 50 Yrds.  I'm sure someone else could do better.

The early ones from Belgium are real sweetharts.

Browning A(uto) T(ake) D(own). That's the one. Mine is a Belgian model and it groups about an inch at 50 yards. Not target quality, but it ain't a target rifle.

mines a belgin model, bought  it at a little gun shop about 15 years ago. it looks like it had a hard(or neglected)life. but it cycles well with all loads from target to stingers and still shoots very well .many a partridge has lost its head to the little rifle.

It is a classic !! You know it must be  a good design if the chinese copied it(Norinco) ! I do not have one but did have chinese copy for a while and it shot great. I got rid of it due to seeing another gun I wanted at the time.I am sure the Browning would be a good investment as they seem to last forever as long as you take care of them.  Back in my younger days it was always one of those guns like the Marlin 39 just out of reach because of its price and like the 39 a gun not often found on the second hand rack because once bought they stayed in peoples gun racks. I bought one brand from a hardware store in 1968 for $75.00. It is a belgium with the light blond wood. A GREAT .22 auto. Compact and accurate. Mine has had a zillion rounds through it. Note the svelte receiver, not 12 ga. sized like a ruger 10/22. I believe with care it will last forever. :lol:  :lol:

Dosent say any model number, just Browning, made in Belgium, .22 short smokeless. Excellent condition, has the tube mag that pulls out of the butt, but the bullets are fed from the top in a hole in the stock just behind the receiver.  I call it the dolphin, cause it looks like a blow-hole. The whole thing when taken down would fit in a standard briefcase with a lot of room to spare.
